Yes try pouring water out of a dispenser on to the nether portal and see the outcome

I've encounter that before but it has a chest full of gold and enchanted apples

They just spawned in border blocks and encased the portal, then made a doorway cause doors block water and lit the portal, and then exited while quickly replacing the door with border blocks creating this illusion

look at my memes and tell me do they look like they were made by a person with such knowledge to do this
