A Series of Unfortunate Events

It confused me a little. Could you explain it?

there's a 14 book long book series called 'A Series of Unfortunate Events'. Lets just say it doesn't have a very happy ending... After finishing the series I was sad cuz I had read it for 3 yrs just to have a really depressing end. You could find it on Wikipedia. Or you could read it. It's pretty good.

Yeah, I have read them. I just didn't understand the meme.
