Firstly, that car is beautiful.

Secondly, freedom is not anarchy...freedom is being able to make the right decisions. Anarchy is being able to make any decision. By virtue of having cops we are a free, rather than an anarchist, society.

I own a WRX myself, but Ford and Dodge make great vehicles that I would definitely love to have if money wasn't a concern (the Charger, Challenger, and a 2010 Mustang GT all come to mind).

Really? They're the only major American auto company that didn't take bailout money from the Feds...For that reason alone they command more respect from me than any other.

To each their own. My family has been a Ford family for years and years, they never had a mechanical problem with any of the models they owned. The gas mileage is what you'd expect from any pickup.

This is why I own a Subaru WRX. It's lighter, safer, more fun to drive, gets better mileage, and could absolutely own larger muscle cars in all aspects but top speed. :)

Firstly, what fine double think you use, an example to the youth, remember to study your new speak dictionary.

Secondly, freedom is slavery... freedom is being able to be stopped and searched for no reason. Anarchy is being able to make a decision. By virtue of having cops, we are free, rather than anarchist, society.

Anarchy means the strong rule the weak. It renders life, as Hobbes said, "Nasty, brutish, and short."

Are there bad cops? Absolutely. But the fact remains that you and I were born into a system created by our ancestors wherein they signed away the "freedom" to do anything in exchange for government protection. If you want to make a stand against cops and oppressive government, be sure you're not hypocritical about it. Don't want to deal with government law enforcement? Don't use government roads and government services. Oh, and don't pay taxes.

It isn't hypocrital to ask that police aren't militarized

It isn't hypocrital to ask that police not murder citizens

Police need reform, not removal.
[deleted]
1 up, 3y,

There is not a single police department in the country where murdering citizens is part of their operational protocol or sworn oath.

Therefore 'militarized' is a dog whistle term and nothing more. If you want real change then police departments need the funding to adequately vet candidates and train them. There ARE bad cops who need to be removed. There are NO bad police doctrines.

I fully understand your position and do sympathize with the victims of police brutality. Murder is murder, there's no way to defend it otherwise. The problem is folks like you aren't proposing effective solutions. What you are trying to bring about will only result in more cases like this tragic incident in Chicago:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/10/07/ferguson-effect-savagely-beaten-cop-didnt-draw-gun-for-fear-of-media-uproar-says-chicago-police-chief/

One good measure would be allowing people to sue cops if they have a legitimate claim for doing so (I.E you couldn't sue for a traffic incident, but you could if you were genuinely harmed or suppressed, or a bad cop murdered someone close to you). While police need some measure of legal protection, since they volunteer for a profession that puts them in harm's way more than any other in the country, they shouldn't have immunity that protects the bad eggs.

I 100% agree!

How do you think police protect those who can't protect themselves?
0 ups, 3y,
1 reply
First off the government protection refers to the armed services(the Navy, Air force, Coast guard, Marines, Army). Second, one bad cop does not make them all bad, third no taxes means no jobs and no getting paid. That also means no public services such as doctors, college education would cost even more than now. Rethink before you speak again.

Alright then, but I'm not sure you understood what I meant. I'll go through each of your "points" and give you my views.

- Government protection applies to the armed services and civil law enforcement.
- Indeed, one bad cop does not make them all bad. I never said it does. Where you got that idea is beyond me.
- No taxes means no government. The person I was talking to said they didn't want to deal with law enforcement, so I told them not to use government services like roads but reject other government services like law enforcement. This is basic social-contract philosophy.
- Private sector variants of all these positions can and do exist. In fact, the private sector can and often does a better job in all of these areas (except law enforcement, which solely a government responsibility) than the government positions.

It makes perfect sense. Unless you want anarchy a society gives some of its freedoms to a source of power in exchange for protection. It's called the social contract.

Laugh all you want, but the fact of the matter is that this is the reality in which we live. Thomas Hobbes, who was the philosopher behind the idea of the social contract, was very influential on the Founding Fathers. It's how all forms of government work actually.

Everyone should be afraid of bad cops...no one should be afraid of cops as an institution. Read their operating doctrines. Look at the actions of the vast majority (99+%) of cops who do nothing but great, selfless work for their communities every day they put that badge on. The overwhelming majority of police are good people who deserve nothing but our respect and support.

usually murderers are the ones who shoot people, not get shot. and who's going to stop them from murdering? since there won't be prisons because they're part of government, all the serial killers will be free to do as they wish. and criminals don't just come from factories, anyone can become criminals. otherwise there wouldn't be any.

How many cops do you see on the news shooting people for no reason. They are SO many other good cops, and you just assume that all of them are bad. What happens if a criminal points a gun at the cop? The cop isn't protected.
[deleted]
0 ups, 3y
Doesn't matter how "good" any individual cop is, if the system itself is broken.

Militarization of the police was, and is, a mistake.

Police shouldn't be trained and equipped for war.
[deleted]
0 ups, 3y
Anyone who has a gun pointed at them, is not protected...

It was very funny! I know our police system has its issues, but by and large they are good people trying to keep the other members of their communities safe. People see the 1% of cops who do bad things and screech so loudly that it seems an overwhelming percentage of cops are actually bad.
[deleted]

completely agree with you...Karens (the person under me called ripcowbelly is an example) are only worried about that small 1% instead of the big picture...

that cops are ordinary humans just trying to live their lives and also protect people from those who want to stop other people from living their lives (aka, murderers)

99% is a big figure...it stands for all the cops that get up in the morning, early, and risk their lives to keep US SAFE

that 1% is made up of corrupt cops...those that actually are more into doing bad stuff due to money rather than race
[deleted]

all the karens (*cough *cough ripcowbelly) really care about is drawing out the bad 1% in people and using that to make people think that the world is terrible.....even though at the moment it kind of seems it is when it isn't as bad as the media and karens are making it

if you only focus on the 1% of people that is bad, you will never know the good side of them and you will continue to live your life in this "negative-like" state.

I know this because I used to be like this when i was slightly younger in 2014- i thought the whole world was against me...until i met "her", my first "darling"- someone who cared for me, as i did to her, and gave me support not based on my negative side...*sigh* i wish i could see her again

If you get forced into this "negative-state", life will not be as fun as it really is and you will fall into some form of depression and may even try to end your own life

Bottom line, its not good to focus on the 1% of people or your life might end up upside-down

People focus too heavily on the negatives and changing them to their definition of positive. While there are some basic things on which we should all agree (I.E murder is wrong, etc) there are a lot of different and equally valid ways to go about implementing those standards. Those who get caught up in their own view tend to become authoritarian and preachy about it.
[deleted]
1 up, 3y
yes, if people focus on the negative, they BECOME the negative if you know what i mean

I 100% agree! I feel bad for police who risk their lives for ungrateful people who think that the police go around and kill people. Do I think there are bad cops, yes, but I also know that there are many cops who are just doing their jobs.

yes, there are bad cops out there, but the number of them is so small that it shouldn't ruin how people percieve who the police are...they are protectors who will risk their lives for us
0 ups, 3y
Yeah, and I feel as though no one is grateful for them as they used to be just because of a few bad cops ruin it for everyone.
[deleted]

if you stay being a karen, your only hope is to stop thinking about the 1% in people and try to think of them as a whole- 100%!

my hope came to me in the form of my first love...for everyone its different

negativity provokes death and despair

There’s about 700000 cops in the u.s., so that’s 7,000 cops doing bad things
[deleted]
1 up, 3y
your not looking at the big picture are you? your only focused on the small so that you can go around spatting stuff that "Most cops are bad", when actually cops are good, hardworking people who try to keep people, and Bozos LIKE YOU, safe

Its like your taking what they are giving you for granted...you do understand that if the cops were defunded that there would be less of a chance for the police to protect you?!

If anything, saying bad stuff about the police is kind of unethical based on what they are giving you, and what you are giving them in return- hatred
[deleted]
0 ups, 3y
There's no solid number of cops who are bad, and therefore you can't use that as a valid argument. 1% was a throwaway example number.
0 ups, 3y
same here, but they still need reform because police brutality is a growing issue
