HAMBURGER: IN THE OLD DAYS THE MEN OF HAMBURG, GERMANY OFTEN SERVED AS MERCENARIES IN VARIOUS EUROPEAN ARMIES. THEY HAD A RULE THAT THEIR DAILY PORTION OF MEAT WOULD BE PUT TOGETHER, GROUND UP, AND DIVIDED EVENLY AMONG EVERYONE. THAT WAY THERE WOULD BE NO BAD FEELINGS ABOUT SOMEONE GETTING A BETTER CUT THAN THE OTHERS. IT ALSO HAD THE ADVANTAGE THAT MEN WERE MORE WILLING TO RISK DEATH IN BATTLE WHEN THEY KNEW THEY WERE GETTING HAMBURGERS FOR DINNER.
