Only one liberated India from the British. I wasn't aware of those other things. You could be referring to any one.

Ghandi did right by India, don't get me wrong, but he was actually a pretty lousy dude.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't honor his dedication to his country, just that we should know everything about him.

Sounds like a good case study of utilitarianism - did Gandhi serve the larger good regardless of his human flaws. People berate each other because they are unlike Jesus, but that high bar is unobtainable.

Utilitarianism is a pretty lousy ethos, if you want my two cents. It allows for all sorts of blatantly wrong actions under the guise of the 'greater good'. On the other hand, sometimes actions like that are truly necessary. I do think Gandhi was a net positive for India. My point was that he shouldn't be admired in the same way Jesus is.

It's impossible to be perfect, but it's best to shoot for the highest possible bar. That way we'll always be at our best, limited though that may be.
