Utilitarianism is a pretty lousy ethos, if you want my two cents. It allows for all sorts of blatantly wrong actions under the guise of the 'greater good'. On the other hand, sometimes actions like that are truly necessary. I do think Gandhi was a net positive for India. My point was that he shouldn't be admired in the same way Jesus is.
It's impossible to be perfect, but it's best to shoot for the highest possible bar. That way we'll always be at our best, limited though that may be.
