God could have shown Jephthah anything when he got home. Fresh cooked pie, birds, goats. How was Jephthah to know God would want a human virgin blood sacrifice?

God dosen't require such sacrifices. Even when He told Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, it was a test of his faithfulness, and God provided a ram for the sacrifice. Jepthah could have given up an animal in similar fashion.
