I’ll choose a good atheist over a God-fearing Christian every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Do you know why?

An atheist who is a good person is that way for the sake of being good, not because they’re scared of being spanked by their mythical sky-daddy.

An atheist does the right thing BECAUSE it’s the right thing, not because they’re told it’s the right thing.

There are plenty of decent Christians. I have some very nice Christian friends

While there are many Christians who use their religions as an excuse to be hateful and stuck in their ways, there are many who don’t and it is unfair to label everyone within that religion the same.

Well, is buddhism a religion? Most buddhists do not worship gods. Yes, they look up to the buddha, but in their beliefs he is not necessarily a god.

maybe not a god but a large connection to the gods/ a prophet who is super human

Not really, doesn't include some parts regarding heaven and hell and right path wrong path. Also, it lists buddhism as a religion
1 up, 4y
i didnt say IT HAD TO YOU IDIOT i said usally thats what happens USALLY.

by diffrent definitions buhddisim is not a religion some scholars beleive this some beleive that over all its up to people to decide what definition of religion to use the oxford language dictionary says "religion is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods." merriam webster says "the service and worship of God or the supernatural"

2 ups, 4y,

i actually did more research and most experts dont call Buddhism a religion but rather a way of life like the dao
[deleted]
3 ups, 4y,

And what differentiates the two?
2 ups, 4y
a way of life is simply following directions from a script or spiritual leader without beleiveing in a god or god driven creation of the universe

so does there need to be a god in religion, or is any superhuman controlling power constitute as religion

Heres some questions to think about:

Atheism is the belief that no god exists. An atheist could hold the same values as a theist, but the only difference would be is that one believes in a god. Does that make one "better" than the other? What's the point of religion? Are atheists immoral? What are some effects of religion?
2 ups, 4y,

they need to believe in a god or some kind of superhuman entity that created the universe

So a religion is just a way of life with god?
1 up, 4y,

yes but the way of life must tie into that god and usally some kind of heaven and hell
[deleted]
2 ups, 4y,

Not necessarily, I believe that is a specific category of religion, which is dualism
1 up, 4y,
3 replies
no it is not. heaven and hell is not dualist as long as there arent 2 seperate entitys ruling over them

“None of those have been at threat for a SUPER long time.”
Depends on how long you consider a “SUPER long time” equality for women has been an issue for over a hundred years, as has racial equality and religious freedom has been sought by many people for over three hundred years. The first documented gay rights organization was founded in 1924, almost a century ago. So how long is a SUPER long, exactly?

Religious freedom for Atheists means the freedom to not believe in a god or higher power, if we did not have religious freedom then the diversity of our world’s beliefs and cultures would be compromised. Also, as an Atheist with friends of other religions, I support their right to practice their religions without having to worry about hate and prejudice.
1 up, 4y
you dont have a religion though why do you care
0 ups, 4y
Why would an atheist die over that?
