It is f**king fascinating! A buddy of mine and I coincidentally happened to be discussing it right before I saw this post. Have seen numerous documentaries about it. It was ethically wrong in a sense, with regard to the people who ended up being Guinea pigs, but also ethically right in the sense that it was being done as a means of protecting Americans from hostile forces...mainly USSR/Russia. Sad that some people died or were permanently harmed.

LSD is not fun, in my opinion. To dose someone without their knowing should be considered attempted manslaughter, or outright manslaughter if they die due to their actions after being dosed.

Yeah, it's kinda like the Holocaust or true crime in general... so horrifying that it's fascinating...

Yes, most people find the macabre fascinating!

Quick question, though: how was experimenting on American civilians supposed to protect anyone from hostile forces?

Because anything is possible...especially when it comes to the human mind...I can guaranty that these unethical experiments lead to some major scientific discoveries. Of course, we civilians would not be privy to what, if anything, was learned from these experiments. When they are talking about mind control, telekinesis, telepathy, etc., I think there is more than enough chance that something valuable could have been learned that would have given the U.S. an advantage.

...Or could have been used to exploit the hell outta the population...

Yes, quite possibly. Very debatable. The truth lies somewhere in the grey area, most likely.

Using the ends to justify the means, is bad ethics.

I agree.

Pretty awesome it failed.

Pretty terrible it happened.

Pretty sure something similar will happen again.

That's fair.

what's that

A really sketchy CIA program where they conducted unethical experiments on American citizens in an attempt to find a way to mind-control people.

It’s not good that it was without people’s knowing that they were given lsd, but if they had done it more safely then it would be ok to me.

Yeah, although it would be less shitty in general if it were safer, I honestly don't really think that the purpose of the whole experiment was a good one.

Yah but I do wish LSD was legal. It makes it harder to find

Mmm, yeah, I could see why you wouldn't like that, but it really is a thing to be careful with.

Yah. If it was legal then it would be safer because it’s less likely to be laced

That's true. There should also definitely be an age restriction and laws against using it while operating a vehicle for obvious safety reasons, but I feel like this substance can be explored safely and ethically to help certain mental issues.

There is a type of therapy that uses the active chemical in shrooms

It's really interesting, but it is horrific that it ever happened. I actually had a lesson on it in a class in school a week or two ago, but I had also done some research on it in the past. It's crazy they got away with doing all that.
2 ups, 4y
Yeah, kinda like the Holocaust. I'm not very surprised that they got away with it, though, because they're a branch of the government and I suppose that the rest of the government didn't care very much.
