Teaching about how to use a gun does not equate to teaching them how to kill. As far as homosexuality (or other sexual orientations) is concerned, I say leave it up to the parents, not schools, but I wouldn't bring it up to my 5-year-old.

Dude, a steak knife can end a life in an instant. As for being taught that they can be attracted to anyone, my child can know that, but I'll be teaching that with a Christian background. If that child grows up and decides to be something other than straight, I will still love him.

The key here is parenting. You can teach your child what you want, and I would want my child to know how to protect himself and his household before I decide what he does with his attraction.

a steak knife can kill people, but it serves other purposes, like chopping food to eat and such. The only thing guns do is kill.

Guns can be used for hunting, and they're useful tools in protecting against burglars and corrupt government. If someone gets shot in the foot, he isn't going to die.

Either way, I'm letting my kids know what they're inalienable rights are, and I'm teaching them how to properly use guns, like the above parents did with their son (and I'll assume their other child).
