depression is ignored a lot by society, but it feels to me like while when a girl has depression people somewhat care, but when a boy or man has depression society just says "man up". a lot of society thinks that "men can't be vulnerable or have feelings, and if they do, they should just toughen up." Maybe, this sparked the steriotype that men are funnier than women, because since men weren't supposed to cry or show weakness, they resorted to humor. But your guess is just as good as mine ;)
