the thing is, that herpo and salazar had a lot of similarities, both were parsletongue, and as we know that parsletounge is most likely to be passed to younger generation. salazar, like herpo, was very anti muggle (mostly due to war between muggles and wizards at the time.) , both hatched a basilisk, both were into dark magic. this also answers the question why many slytherins and dark wizards(including voldemort) hate muggle borns, they hate it because of slytherin but in slytherin's time there was a war between the muggles so he had a valid reason.
