Friend, I respect where you are coming from. It sounds to me like God hasn't called you at this time. I believe everyone will ultimately get a chance, but that chance may not even be in this life. I don't know when your turn will come, or what is already in your heart, though, so please allow me to encourage you.
I am a person of science as well as faith, so I get very well the importance of testing. I respect your decision to reject that which you found unfounded. I respect this far more than someone who simply wants to play the game of religion but doesn't really believe it. That would accomplish nothing good, and get you nowhere. In fact, I wonder if you may have been wounded by such people yourself. Like with the story of Paul in the book of Acts, God is far more interested in people who stand up for the truth the best they know, because God can then move them into position if and when He chooses.
Please understand, though, the significance of the truth that God is spirit (John 4:24). Trying to find the truth of Him with physical evidence is a bit like trying to detect color with your ears; it won't work very well. If you truly want to find out if there is a God, you have to let God define what the evidence looks like. It's not that he is toying with you, but part of it is practical - he can't give you something in a form that it doesn't come in, and part of it is relational - God is interested only in those who want real, healthy companionship with Him. He won't be someone's fool who only wishes to find what they can get out of Him.
Rather, if you ever find yourself discontent with your current answers, then please ask Him to show you the truth, then stay open-minded about what the answer will look like. There is a cost to be paid for the truth in giving up one's comfort and pride, but really this is just giving up one's illusions. Others have paid even more, but even so, it will be worth it in the end if not now.
