And if Patrick tried to be smart he could be, as we see in “Patrick SmartPants” when his head is replaced with a piece of brain coral, and the wires in his head connect.
“But his brain is in his head!”
Well, I bet you didn’t know that starfish don’t actually have brains. They have a complex nervous system that allows them to make a decision, and is located in the shape of a ring around the mouth.
“Well this is a cartoon, real stuff doesn’t apply!”
First of all, the creator of the show, Stephen Hillenberg, used to teach marine biology before he created SpongeBob, so I’m sure he’d want this to be on point. Second of all, when Patrick loses his head, he still has all of his past memories of him and SpongeBob when he has his new head on.
You are welcome for this extremely long comment discussing the science of a 2000’s tv show that you didn’t ask for. :)
