Well since he's mexician and a neko, his family are too. Pretty much they were immigrants trying to cross the border illegally. Both got shot, leaving him traumatized and to take care of his little sister. His mom died on the way to hospital though. His dad died to a shot to the head.

Tbh, the only reason my Pokémon Trainer persona has stab wounds and slit wrists is cause she's suicidal. She's suicidal cause of her dad being verbally abusive towards her. He wanted her to train dragon types like everyone in his family has. But her mom's family trains grass types and fairy types. She has fairy type allergies though so her mom only has grass types. She trains mainly bird like Pokémon like Blaziken or Corviknight. Also to avoid her dad, she travels all over the Pokémon world. Her mentor actually is Johto gym leader Pryce.

Kyle is the loser for Johto region champion. He lost to Kurè, and kept a grudge, ever since he found out Kurè won fair and square, they became best friends. My other OC Jim, is the Kalos region champion. He won by a long shot
