America is a continent ! however it is referred to as The America’s because it is split (artificially by the Panama Canal) into Two halves both north and south.
But it is also still right to call the geographical whole America.

For those overworried about the power of Humankind and channels: this planet is covered by human-made channels that have not, though, multiplied the number of continents.

For those concerned, here is a list of continents by alphabetical order: America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania. Some people would add Antarctica.
So please don't assume that America is the same as the United States of America. Please do not talk about many Americas either. There is only one America and it's a continent. Saying the contrary equals making a fool of oneself in front of this whole non-American planet.
