He did because the monster couldn't digest his armor and he ended up being spit out and losing his armor

MANDALORIAN SEASON 2 SPOILER ALERT!!!
That is supposed to be part of the plot line for The Mandalorian season 2. Some guy got his armor from the Sarlac pit and is pretending to be him. He will most likely team up with Mando to find it. As well as Sabine ahsoka and possibly Ezra (from rebels)
