Pro Deo et Patria...used for centuries by England, Spain, it has been the motto for many families in Ireland. Many military regiments through the centuries have used it as their motto.As has educationl intituitions. It is and has been ubiquitous.

Yes, I am aware of the history of that statement. You'll also note that those countries were dominated by state churches only adds to the confusion.
