Serious educators are trying to get away from that method, but for long-term memory nothing beats actually caring about the material. I still remember random biology facts only because I thought they were funny and drew cartoons in my notes.
Yeah that's true. Unless you actually care about understanding the material you're not going to remember it and it'll be a huge waste of time. For example I love history so I'll remember most everything I learned in that class. My classmates on the other hand will probably forget most of it.
It's frustrating though cause (no offense) most of them just don't seem to have the brainpower (or willpower) to just think something through for themselves. They just want an easy answer to memorize and then forget soon after.
