I found common ground with my liberal friends years ago... Now there are perpetually angry leftists in their place for whom nothing is good enough. I now have to defend principles my liberal friends could be counted on to defend, principles that were stereotypically left-leaning.
Conservatives have had to take up both conservative and liberal principles because the left has abandoned all principle.
Conservatives are the liberals now.
