Ridiculous! You don't get a pass just because you dissent.

Even if what you're dissenting from is incorrect, the idea of dissenting is still patriotic if what's inherent in your dissent is the idea that the country can improve for the better, which is true for many dissenters. Blindly being subservient to the state and never questioning it is foolishness, not patriotism.

So . . .
1. In 1859 Northern dissenters supporting slavery were patriotic?
2. Currently: pro-life dissenters are patriotic?

The idea of dissenting is patriotic. Whether or not what they are dissenting is wrong or not is irrelevant.

If the people dissenting genuinely believe the substance of their dissent will help their country improve, then yes, the act of them dissenting is patriotic. However, the substance of the dissent itself could be wrong and morally reprehensible, and sometimes might actually be harmful to the country, or unpatriotic. The act of dissenting though is patriotic.
