Women's Art - overlooked

It was the Renaissance, seeing that it was a time period with literally no women's rights(and few human rights for that matter) of course women artists were overlooked which is kinda interesting considering the whole concept of a 'Renaissance woman' which promoted education and appreciation of culture. I mean what better way to appreciate it than to paint, right?

Fortunately things are different today both with contemporary female artists and some of that lost Renaissance art is being discovered and explored, like in this meme.

Against the odds, Sofonisba Anguissola was internationally successful in her own lifetime and was appointed official court painter to the King of Spain. However, modern galleries, art historians, educational institutions and media continue to ignore her contributions. The continued failure to adequately recognise and record the accomplishments of women has not changed. Sofonisba Anguissola has been consigned to obscurity for no reason other than sexism.
