It was basically about how we didn't want to lose millions of US troops in Japan and we didn't want the Soviets creating a Korean war thing where there would be a communist north and a capatalist south

They were probably going to surrender anyway. It wasn't about the surrender, it was about getting it before the Soviets started deploying onto Japan.
