I think that excessive prevention of sickness is absurd and detrimental. I grew up in Africa (my parents are missionaries) where I pretty much ate dirt (figuratively, obviously. It's not like I actually ate dirt for dinner lol). And because I was exposed to minor amounts of germs at an early age, I was able to build up a very strong immune system (in fact, that's exactly how vaccines work. They expose you to a minor amount of a disease, thus training your immune system to recognize, and respond appropriately to, said illness). On the other hand, I have a friend who grew up with everything being meticulously cleaned and sanitized, and she has no immune system. And you'd be surprised how little hyperbole I'm using there. She's sick half the time, and the other half she's having a bad reaction to one of her many allergies (please don't think I'm hating on her. She is a wonderful person to be around, and I'm glad she's a friend. I'm just showing an example of the effects of being excessively germaphobic). So, all that to say, it's ok to be a little cautious, but don't go out of your way to prevent getting sick. It'll only backfire on you. I think this applies to the quarantine, too. COVID-19 has been proven to be, in infection-death ratio, approximately the same as, or less than, the flu (if we factor in the fact that far more people have been infected than have been reported, and obviously haven't been hospitalized, otherwise we'd know. Plus if anyone dies with coronavirus, it's counted as death by coronavirus. But what if they had died from other medical issues that they had, and not from COVID-19? It's been made known that they don't check for that). Plus, COVID-19 is really only threatening the same people that influenza threatens. So why aren't we quarantining every time the flu comes around? It's stupid. Now, I'm not belittling the situation. People ARE dying. I'm not saying we should treat COVID-19 as if it were the flu. I just think that they're making a mountain out of, well, not a molehill, but a much smaller mountain. If the lockdown were removed, but most other social distancing protocols were kept in place, we'd probably be fine. But that's just my opinion. No doubt what the gov't is doing is (kinda) working. But no matter what, I hope you have a great day! Stay safe!
