It only works if the virus disappears. But it will not. So whenever people go back to work - a week, month, year, the virus will spread again among those who do not have immunity from getting it in the past. Hibernation only works if it is continued indefinitely.

it only works absolutely if continued indefinitely. curve flattening leads to a longer profile of the pandemic, true, but fewer cases per unit time and I don't plan to live forever.

Can't let the economy delve into another great depression. It'll be almost impossible to get ourselves out.

Simply reversing the lockdown is to choose increased fatalities. So if the economy is restarted soon, there'll need to be continued requirements for distancing. I'm sure additional tactics for achieving that are being discussed.
