And thus
shall patient Nature o'ertake us in our vain illusions,
Laughing at our fantasy of permanence
and mocking our pride.
For our achievements are but shadows
under her mountains
And our garish lights fade beneath her rising sun.
Our age shall pass, as have empires before us,
Melting into the mists as she persists.
Her fragile children, no longer afraid,
Move into our empty spaces
And reclaim their home. ..... Starr Luteri; photo: Fari Azis
