Jesus meets lepers, those who
are ritually dangerous to the community.
He touches them and they are healed.
The new world comes in bodily
contact with dangerous disease. Jesus makes contact with the blind,
lame, and deaf and restores them.
The new world comes in good
health care delivery. Jesus comes to a hungry crowd
and feeds them. The new world
comes in adequate food
provisions for those without resources. The new world that is safe and not under
threat comes in generous human acts that
outflank fear, that contradict anxiety, that veto
greed, and that refuse violence. That is how
Jesus brought a new world. —Walter Brueggemann
