Well, they did, but the Purple Guy went into the Springtrap suit and became an animatronic himself.

Well, the weird thing is he is already technically dead. A theory that is true is that he was the child from the bite of 87 which is when one of the animatronics crushed him to death by biting him.

Wrong if I may, during a minigame in 2, you find purple gy kill each animatronic, than getting in the spring bonnie suit, ending his life, but came back as the antagonist in 3. Meaning the kids are looking for Afton, killing each guard to see if its purple guy
