You gotta love the many English translations of the Bible. I think "murder" was implied, as in, like, murder 1. Obviously, a lot of animals were killed for sacrifices, and people killed others in war. It's kind of a weird commandment/follow through if you think about it too much.

God told Noah before the Ten Commandments:

Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.-Genesis 9:3

God told Peter in the New Testament:

“Rise, Peter, kill and eat.” - Acts 11:7

So I think the correct translation of the 6th Commandment is murder. Pre-meditated, not self defense.

Animals were created for the use of man.
