For the record, FedEx is notorious for destroying antique typewriters and is loathed by typewriter collectors. We are talking about a one in four chance of severe damage even to typewriter boxes marked fragile. The problem is that FedEx uses large heavy boxes to pile stuff up on but because the boxes don't weigh too much, about 20-25 pounds they are also ok to throw around. My 1896 Typewriter was fatally stabbed by a forklift blade. And even if FedEx covers it's current market evaluation, which they are dragging their feet on doing, you can't replace intrinsic value ever. I'm getting out of the hobby except for local purchases now. If you absolutely, positively, want it destroyed, ship FedEx.
