Anyways, I would generally suggest stocking up on references. Don’t be afraid to trace - I do it all the time - but if you’re feeling confident, just go for it.
You’ll want to define a skeleton first - just start with straight lines - then start filling in the curvature. Next, trace out lines for the rows of feathers. As a general rule, I suggest two or three rows. Fill in the feather details. Finally, add color/shading!
