I've heard of it. Basically, they fought a war over the Toledo strip. Toledo went to Ohio and as compensation, Michigan got the Upper Peninsula from the then Wisconsin territory.

Ohio got the Toledo strip, Michigan got the upper peninsula from Wisconsin. Just because Ohio was a state at the time, Michigan was a territory.
