I will be honest in that I think some collectivist/socialist type systems are nice on the surface as safety nets. But if people looked after each other because you should rather than being forced to then socialism wouldn't be needed at all. Socialism ultimately leads to dehumanisation as those tentacles go deeper and deeper until it becomes Communism. Socialism is for Communists who dont like to handle a Gun even though they like to tell you what to do.
So yes I think they are ignorant also. Ignorant as to who pays and what happens when they stop getting the financial inputs because you taxed or reduced the incentive to produce or both. Up until now and probably always it will never succeed.
If all resources of any nation were fully owned by the citizens and not corporations or individuals and there was minimal bureaucracy involved to distribute that common wealth from the sale of resource. Well then it might work but then it would still require an external group to purchase resources and then I dont know what you call it but I dont think it's socialism.
