when i referred to the 'overall plan', i meant the plan to win the presidency and congressional seats, not the party platform. they're doing the impeachment, i believe, because it represents a road to victory in that sense. does he deserve to be impeached? i'd say certainly in that he did use u.s. monies as a personal bargaining chip (and he's not competent to carry out most of his duties). the house is not required to attempt impeachment only if they feel certain of conviction. they can and should pursue it if warranted by apparent criminal activity. if they gain from it politically, well that's politics, and a risk that everyone in politics takes when they do whatever they do every day.
it would be great if our elections hinged on great ideas and strategies, but that's a small part of how things actually seem to work. both sides take every advantage they can. we can be sure that Trump and Mitch will continue to do so.
