True story: Jackie Gleason was a guest on Johnny Carson's THE TONIGHT SHOW and explained why.
He personally pulled the plug on the show (against the wishes of CBS) because he felt the script writers were running out of plot ideas and Gleason refused to give what he thought would be mediocre performances.
Imagine how history might have changed if he'd only hired different writers!

for sure! reminds me of how star trek had like three seasons and didn't get popular 'til several years after shutting down. by the time millions of others are inspired to write scripts for the characters, the original actors are either way older or dead as atilla the hun. so it goes i spose...like snows o'er a rose...we catch what magic they did expose...and feel as though we're the better for it.
