The Vikings arrived before Columbus, and the Native tribes were already settled here.

National U.S. History Museum [i.e. I guess they LEARNED from their past mistake of using the WRONG narrative- the one without All the Facts]

Columbus Day | IN 1492 COLUMBUS SAILED THE OCEAN BLUE YADDA, YADDA, YADDA | image tagged in columbus day | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I'm so tired of hearing about American history. It seems like the school year starts with the pilgrims and ends with the civil war and doesn't go beyond. I actually prefer world and ancient history.

Columbus never stepped foot on America. The Pilgrims were huge hypocrites and the civil war was about a few very rich families wanting to keep using free labor to get richer, but convinced a bunch of poor people to die for them. (That's real history, but I use to say the same thing when I was in school. Class of 83)

True.
Hence- the essence of the real history is embodied in the title- UNsettling the continent- instead of "settling" or "how the west was won"
There's Also ALOT of untold history beyond 1865- like the fact that within 10yrs there were more than 9 black congressmen (many from the South)- All that was reversed when Reconstruction was purposely Abandoned -many many gains were reversed-

It's sad that to get the REAL HISTORY -you almost have to visit EACH of the NATIONAL MUSEUMS
idk why more secondary curriculum arent based on the corrected info contained in those museums.

I enjoy learning it but beyond just memorizing dates and names. Our history books are so written to make America seem like the end all be all when other countries have been around so much longer and have a much richer history. We're only a little over 200 years old. Contrast that to China or European history that covers thousands of years. That to me in the history I find more interesting.

I use to hate how half the exams would want to know dates and exact places. Q: When was the Magna Carta signed?

A: who cares? Try asking What was it about and why was it important?

Don't you have to learn both? U.S. history 1450s-1865 and about1865-1970 AND World History?
It's all Very valuable information.
