I kinda though it was a mutual defense arrangement …..but I have not seen any help from the Turks in fighting ISS.

Do you not know, NATO has been (almost completely) dissolved.

Because other countries need our help (and humans help other humans).

Because our country is literally the most powerful country in the world.

First of all, just because our country is the most bountiful and powerful doesn't mean that we are the only country to help others (you know that). Second (using an excerpt from nato.int) NATO promotes democratic values and enables members to consult and cooperate on defence and security-related issues to solve problems, build trust and, in the long run, prevent conflict. Even though not all representatives (any person of power in NATO) may wholeheartedly believe in protecting other countries, it is a human duty to save lives. God is some ways commands it of us; even if he didn't, I would (if in power) strive to protect the vulnerable. Now, I don't know anything about the struggle between the Kurds and Damascus, but I hope it gets sorted out soon.

NATO (is and was) an alliance between 29 countries. Nato.int simply states that it (excerpt) promotes democratic values and enables members to consult and cooperate on defence and security-related issues to solve problems, build trust and, in the long run, prevent conflict. Its job alone (including very powerful countries) is to keep the peace, and in times of war will wage it.
