IKR? What's the penalty in Islam for adultery?

"The woman and the man guilty of zināʾ (for fornication or adultery),- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment."

I just have to wonder what kind of limp-wristed weaklings Muhammed had around that it even took 100 lashes?

The Romans, one of the most brutal civilizations that was rather... creative w/ their punishments, had flagellation as a punishment, & 40 lashes was considered to be the equivalent to a death sentence, that's why you see, for example in the Bible ppl being sentenced to "39 lashes" as essentially "being beaten within an inch of their lives".
