Do you not know how elections work for an incumbent president?

Yes, I know how elections work. And there are usually a challenger or two to a sitting president. Trump is too cowardly to debate his challengers, and is leading the Government of Putin (GOP) to not hold primaries in states where he might face a reasonable challenge.
That's real bravery there. What a man.
Face it. Hair Furher is a coward of the first order.
But he gets love letters - "beautiful letters" - from Kim Jung Un, so he's got that going for him.

The party almost always stands behind its incumbent, and it's the opposing party who supplies challengers.

There were no democrat challengers to incumbent Obama in 2012, there were no republican challengers to incumbent Bush in 2004, there were no democrat challengers to incumbent Clinton in 1996, there were no republican challengers to incumbent Reagan in 1984.....it goes on and on.

Oh, I see. Because there haven't been any challengers in a while means there should never be any!

I doubt that you can name a same-party challenger to an incumbent president in this century.

It simply isn't done, because it's foolish and a guaranteed way to lose the office. The very few times it's been tried - it failed. Trump is enjoying a higher approval rating than Obama at the same point in his presidency....with better results on the economy, taxes, unemployment, international trade.... Why would anyone want to challenge success?
