It was a spoof for the pak'ma'ra of Babylon 5. You may be reading too much into it.

I never could get interested in B 5. In fact, I have to go to IMdB to remember who the cast members were.

Look up the pak'ma'ra. They're an alien race from B5, that bear a strong resembles to the Ood, as well as Cthulhu. I used the name in the meme instead of Shoggoth because I couldn't remember them at the time, and I needed something to fit the Spanish Inquisition theme.
