I would say that as long as nobody is getting harmed it's fine to pursue your own wants. Selfishness has actually helped humanity maintain it's success by ensuring things like wanting our own genes to be passed on thus allowing for more humans to be born, it's ensured that inventors desires for innovation or money inadvertently helping people with their inventions. But those are just a few examples.
