Do not underestimate a pedophile. They are masters at what they do. They know where and how to gain access to their desired target age. So I wouldn't let my guard down. And it's unfortunate that it even has to be an issue. Kids shouldn't have to worry about these nasty monsters who hide behind their screens at home.
I don't know your personality, but a lot of kids become afraid to block or report these types of people when they encounter them. They don't want to get them in trouble, or they may have made threats against their targets family or friends. They start with small innocent sounding questions and work up to serious stuff, even trying to meet up. Do not EVER be afraid to block or report or simply ignore such a person. Reporting their behavior is always recommended. By doing so you may very well save the life of potential future victims. Do not be intimidated by their words no matter what they say. They can be very convincing and have quite a way of getting younger people to do whatever they tell them to do.
At the risk of sounding like an after school special, if you ever find yourself in such a situation and you are too afraid to tell your parents because you are worried about getting in trouble, feel free to seek out another adult who can help you. This includes me. There are always honest people who are willing to help in these situations. Now be safe out there, and definitely don't message with strangers.
