Namely that a fanatical believer in the infallibility of any scientific ideal behaves as arrogantly as a religious fanatic, the difference being the religious extremist preaches against the perceived wrongs in others, while a science extremist tends to preach that those sharing their opinion can do no wrong.

There are many examples, but right off my head: William Shockley (scientist and eugenics advocate who worked to convince the public -via his writings- that blacks are mentally inferior people). Richard Dawkins (famously known for making stereotypical assertions about religion and people who believe in a higher power). Thomas Edison (who performed cruel experiments on animals, and was said to have told his wife that those with superior intellect are born to be served by the "sheep which comprise the general population"). BF Skinner (who worked under the assumption that the emotional and psychological conditioning of children for the interests of a well-ordered society is more important than individual rights and notions of basic human rights).

Let me put it this way, when a person's opinion that any scientific theory is absolutely irrefutable and can never be altered, and that any skeptisim toward said theory deserves to be ridiculed, belittled, damned or otherwise not tolerated, then that person has gone from being a rational human being to one as close-minded as those fanatics that want to control the behavior of others out of a sense of religious privilege.

AKA Scientism, when you think Scientology is a joke, but still want Science to be your religion.

Does anybody know what a Scientology church is like? I've only been to Christian / Messianic church gatherings and a Catholic funeral. I'm just imagining the organist plays the theme to "Bill Nye" as the prelude. 🤭

I've never been to one of their meetings. But from what I know from friends who have relatives who have joined Scientology, people basically loose their identity (and all sense of compassion) in that church.

Please don't think I am against either science or religion. I'm not. But the world can do without fanaticism, wherever it comes from.

I don't know very much about the Harry Potter world to be frank, lol. But my gods are real for me, not mythology.

Seriously, I don't think it needs any more elaboration.
