I had a boyfriend years ago. He seemed SO NICE. Nicest I had ever met actually and not a single person had a bad word to say behind his back. WE eventually moved in together (against my better judgement). He treated me like a doormat, and treated his friends like gold. He finally admitted to just using me to pay his way in life so he could spend his money doing things he liked. So yeah. There's that example. I was the villain in everyone's eyes because he put up a front, and behind closed doors was a different person. I always say you never know who someone really is.
