Missed out on the hippie era but used to have long hair 😂

My grandpa used to call youths in the 60s "damned hippies" and I was getting ready to comment on a post and started reading the other replies. The OP was from a teen who was asking about the site, etc and another poster said it was polite to give an upvotes for replies/comments. This kid went off on a wild tangent about how he wasn't going to f'ing thank anyone and he didn't have to, blah, blah, blah. Bingo - I posted this 😀

I see. I fear for this future generation. I'm pretty strict with my kids and my ex does not like that, which is why they act out at her house. She would get mad at me when I'd discipline them when we were married. She's finding out now that the kids don't act out at our house and do their chores. She didn't know our youngest, the 8 year old, knows how to clean a bathroom. At her house she doesn't make him do it. Anyway. Kids need beaten... more or less

Some kids just need the "hairy eyeball" glare to straighten up...others need a little more encouragement LOL. Good on you for teaching your kids! Too many parents want to be friends with their kids and instead of raising adjusted kids they are producing spoiled entitled brats with no clue of how the world works. Damned hippies! 😂

Unfortunately, I used to have a bad temper made worse by my ex. However, counseling has worked wonders and I feel great as a person. The kids are relearning me and realizing I don't fly off the handle, judge or anything. I will get irritated, frustrated maybe mad but nothing like before. I'm learning they prefer my house over hers.

Being friends with your kids can have some advantages but there has to be a line. I think I've found that line now with a balance of discipline and teaching as well as playing and joking. Sometimes the most fun you can have is free like when we played hide and seek outside until 2am one weekend. 😂

Fatherhood/Parenthood is for sure a gift and I get filled with rage at reports of children abused or murdered. Wish we could make predeterminations and spay/neuter humans...
