I was too for 8 years. And mine will be but now it's not possible so this is just for one year. Be sure to talk it over with your prospective wife homeschooling is a huge commitment and it's not for everyone. After teaching public and private school the past ten years I know it's the best decision for our family.

Not all schools are bad. I know plenty of well rounded adults who went to public school and some adults who were totally messed up by private schools. The most important is the formation that is done at home. Some parents think raising kids is up to teachers and it shows, kids have no discipline nowadays.

Our kids are going to a private school that is practically across the street, we see and talk to their teachers every day. We note behavior changes in the kids and see if it's influence from other kids. We talk to them about any concerns they have. Being involved in your kids education is so important. The formation they get at home will help them once they do go out into the world.

Of course I'm a pretty new parent myself but I just speak from my own experience growing up and from teaching many different kids.

Yea, it's true. The ways of the world are not the Christian way. Keep looking for a good Christian girl.

Since I home school, I relish the days my husband takes the kids out.

I can imagine. They probably relish it too. Do you have any sort of co-op or get together with other homeschool families? That helps take the load off a little. And also prevents the much feared under socialization that the world seems to think we suffer from. ;)

Have not in the past but they have friends. They have a lot of friends at church. Since they do AWANA during the year they are around a lot of kids their own age, and they made friends with the kids in our neighborhood when we moved here, and they do a lot of activities at the library, go to the park so forth and so on. People really do believe that home school kids live in some hole in the ground. I dare say they may get more socialization being home schooled, because public schools seem to prevent kids from interacting as much. Many don't even do recess anymore. Sad really.

I agree. Pretty much is like a workday for them. 8-4 with a lunch break. Some kids are at school for 12 hours. Dropped off before care and picked up in after care. It's sad. When I was teaching I would let my kids just play as a reward the middle schoolers especially loved it. They had no playground nor recesd. So i would bring in Board games, coloring pages (yes even the teens liked to color) brain puzzles. The most popular was the basketball hoop from the dollar store that went on the door. The boys would toss balled up paper. I think learning should be fun not a dreary affair.

I always say the brain is like bread dough. If you don't allow it to rest you won't get a good result. I do my best to keep it fun and interesting. Engage them in discussion. We do Fun Friday, which is basically if we did what we had the schedule all week Fridays are fun. Games, videos, field trips, all educational but still fun. IT's a nice break from the regular books and pencils routine.
