I have no problem with it. I guess if you don't want to change your name, you don't have to and if you can't tell who is who, just look on their profile and it'll say who they used to be. I like it and I'll be changing my name each month until no one really knows who I once was. It's either that or I'll be making a new account and starting all over again.

The least if you've achieved more than a million points or made it to the top 100 users by then your username has become a brand.

Imgflip doesn't provide any kind of personal data in your profile (but for a tagline which you can alter anyway). Nor does imgflip allow to follow select users. Thus your username remains the only beacon for other imgflippers to refer to.
Change it endlessly like your tagline or your underwear huh? What for - trolling? then make an alt-account. Hate your old identity, performance or presence? Then better restart from craps and try to make it better. Want nobody to recall or remember who you were originally? Then delete.

Besides the mess there's much more about it.
Now that they don't have to stick with their name any longer there's a tendency of abusive username changes and trolling emerging:
AndrewFinlayson quit his name? Cool! Someone else took it!
Make hatefull memes about repost issues for months? Take it to a new lewel and change your name to 'KillAllRepostWhiners'.
Your name being disposable why not arrogate and blaspheme (guess who).

Trolling issues on imgflip are bad enough; if it comes to childish monthly name change airs now it'll get out of hand.

Name changes don't make this site a better place.
I adjure imgflip to end this mess already and restore the old profiles.

Really? I have not noticed. I guess if it gets to be a problem they will no longer allow the name changes. I have no reason to alter mine any further so I would not care if they did.

Probably a few. I know one guy had one but he didn't keep it a secret. Though I can't recall who. I don't know who has time for that honestly.
