Donald Trump is a classical liberal technically speaking. Western countries are liberal, and Eastern (socialist) countries are, well, not liberal.

Mr. Putin is right though, liberalism (capitalism, internationalism, "freedom," and democracy) are becoming obsolete, and I'm damn happy that is so. As the communists of the past put it, "Liberalism is scientifically doomed to fail."
