Because Stephen Hillenburg specifically requested that there be NO spin-offs of Spongebob. Nickelodeon is going against his wishes and bending his vision of the show, and *coincidentally* only three months after his passing. This even caused Spongebob writer Paul Tibbett to take to Twitter on how Stephen wouldn’t have wanted this.
