True Story: My company was bought by another larger company and we all got new email addresses. Despite having an unusual spelling of more common name it turned out there was already someone with my same last name already working there, but because my first name came first alphabetically he became 2 at the end of his.

Now the fun starts when I start getting his emails. Most boring stuff as he is a manager in his plant and I mostly just forwarded them to him. Then came the day I got an emergency email! They couldn't start a production line because they couldn't find the key. So I sent back "they're in the fridge duh." and forwarded that to him too. We had a good laugh together, but I was told not to do it again.

True story in reply: Our surname is also an uncommon variant of a more common name. I had to take my mother to the ER attached to a mid-size hospital. They admitted her while I was parking the car & the info desk sent me to her room when I asked for directions. It wasn't my mom, but a woman who had the same EXACT name, born in the same year. It took a while but we found my mom was admitted to the corresponding room and bed one floor below the woman with whom my mother shared her name. No one else thought it was funny.
