Enacting some fairly simple restrictions on who can buy a gun, under what circumstances, and how quickly would be a good start. More effective background check requirements. Prohibitions on unregulated private party sales of guns at gun shows. That would be a start. Poll after poll after poll has shown that a very large percentage of gun owners support them. Even a large percentage of NRA members. But let those words pass the lips of a legislator, state or federal, and the NRA leadership, who get a large percentage of their salaries from gun manufacturers, and possibly even Russian oligarchs, immediately light their hair on fire and start running around the room screaming, "Theyr tryin two take r gernz, theyr tryin two take r gernz."

During that same time period, over 5 million unborn children were killed by abortion violence. If 5 million is more than 7 thousand then THAT seems to be the real national emergency.

Your reference to "abortion violence" is a pretty good sign that you have a religious objection to abortion which makes any attempt at a logical discussion pointless. Abortion is legal, for a whole laundry list of reasons that you should know even if you discount them. Abortion is fairly freely available in virtually every country that have far more restrictive gun laws than the US. Countries where mass shootings are very rare if not unheard of. Which any reasonable person would see as an indication that they are two very different discussions. But there's that word, "reasonable." Nevermind.

If you want to be "logical" then how does it follow that using the term "abortion violence" is a religious objection??? The fact that abortion is legal does not change the fact that the unborn children are still as dead as the children who are dead from gun violence, so my point remains. 5 million dead children is still far more than 7k.

Because I have yet to encounter a staunch opponent of abortion who doesn't drag religion into it sooner or later. If you look at the big picture, and look at the cost of abortion vs the personal and societal costs of women having children that they aren't able or willing to take care of, abortion wins. That's why it is legal to one degree or another in virtually every industrialized "first world" country.

Well, I didn't bring up religion but I can. Religious people got involved when Jim Crow and slavery which was imposed on Black human beings and the rational ones are fighting against abortion because of the taking of an innocent unborn human lives.

You comment is false. Roe v. Wade was passed on the basis of privacy, not societal cost and that is why it was argued to be a legal. So, I call BS on the "societal cost" defense because most of the same one's making this argument want to flood us with illegals. You think we should kill them? After all, they cost us billions.

The other fallacy is that you can eliminate a problem by eliminating humans and by eliminate, we are talking execution/killing as that is what abortion does. It sounds like you haven't thought this through because that is not what civilized societies do - dismembering and burning innocent unborn children. There is something also which is called ADOPTION.
